Upcycled Treat Jars and Gift Bow Tutorial

All year long I hoard save little glass jars for those inevitable last-minute gift giving moments that pop up during the holidays.  Upcycled treat jars are easy to make and take only a few minutes to put together.

Upcycled Treat Jars

When decorating a jar, I usually choose decor that compliments the type of jar I am using.  The jar on the left, with its brushed metal lid and square container, has a very hip and modern feel so I chose both decor and candy that is simple and has clean lines.  The jar on the right has a more rustic and country feel so I dolled it up with festive gingham and plenty of polka dots.

A few glittery Thickers on a tag makes a festive statement.

Nothing says country like polka dots and a "hand-written" sentiment.

Isn't that red and gingham paper the cutest?  To make a jar lid wrap out of paper, lightly spritz a paper circle with water, wrap and fold around the lid, and secure with a rubber band until dry.
Each jar is topped with a handmade gift bows.  Handmade bows are easy to make.  Here's how I did it:

Gift Bow Tutorial

  1. Trim 7 lengths of ribbon--three at 5 3/4", three at 4 1 /4" and one at 2 1/2".
  2. Twist the ends of each ribbon and adhere to the center with an adhesive dot.
  3. Adhere the similarly sized pieces together with adhesive dots and then stack the layers.
  4. Fold the shortest ribbon into a circle and adhere to the center of the bow.

I used 3/8" ribbon for these bows, but you could easily use wider ribbon or even strips of paper.

Have a very Merry Christmas!
